After being closed for over a year, Forrest Monk and myself (Sara Zahn) have lovingly restored the Hotel Jeffery, hoping to create an environment that will give visitors a sense of what the hotel was like 160 years ago.  It was a lot more work than anticipated just in cleaning the dirt and debris that was left behind from years of neglect.

The towns people are warm and friendly and have tried to create an authentic old west environment, helping keep the town true to it's origins.   Coulterville has been voted the 4th most authentic western town in the United States by True West magazine and once you arrive you will be emersed in the history that is Coulterville. 

The Hotel Jeffery is the perfect getaway for anyone who enjoys experiencing history first hand, exploring old towns and wineries as well as visiting the most beautiful national park in America.

History

Coulterville attracts thousands of people each year due to it’s central location in the gold county. There is still gold in the creek that runs through town and gold panning equipment is available on a first come basis.

For those seeking the paranormal, we have 17 ghosts residing at the hotel (or so it’s been documented) and ghost detecting kits are available for the more adventuresome guests.

The Hotel Jeffery was first built in 1850 for stagecoach passengers and the Magnolia Saloon is the oldest working saloon in California.

The hotel has hosted US Presidents, John Muir, Mark Twain and various others. The hotel, which burned down 3 times before 1889, is a designated historical landmark (along with the entire town). Coulterville has been voted the #4 most authentic western town in the United Sates

Located just 28 miles from Yosemite National Park, Hotel Jeffery is the perfect place to stay and use as a base camp while experiencing the historic gold country with it’s quaint towns, wineries, antique stores and of course gold panning in the many rivers and streams. There is also fishing, horseback riding, skiing as well as golfing all a short distance away.

Lodging

The Hotel Jeffery has 20 guest rooms.  There are rooms with private baths, some with designated baths (all on the second floor) and

some have shared baths on the 3rd floor which rent for a substantial discount.  A continental breakfast is offered in the Victorian

dining room (which is included in the room charge) and a hot breakfast special is offered as well for a nominal charge.

Casual atmosphere of an 1850s saloon (complete with bullet holes) and original 40 ft bar and bar back.

The Courtyard

Open year round, is surrounded by flowers, trees & grape vines, provides a peaceful and inviting atmosphere.

The menu features items such as our famous “Cowboy Burger”, New York Steak,  fresh salmon...and much more.

Amenities

We provide each room with Lord & Mayfair toiletries, plush bathrobes, hair driers, alarm clocks, free wireless internet and cookies in theevening. We are currently working to provide computers in a few of the rooms as well as TVs.  We have a cozy guest room on the second floor with a TV for viewing DVDs. 

Although there are no phones in the rooms, access to our hotel phone at the registration desk is available for all guests at no charge,

24/7 and there is no charge for long distance.
